The Poster Girl

Hello Friends

Well it's February and where did January go?  At least the days are lengthening noticeable now.

I've been feeling down lately so been keeping myself to myself.  Nobody loves a moaner but it's been rough. My spirits picked up some when my new metal butterfly dies dropped through my letter box.

Did I need them? No.

Am I glad I bought them? Yes

I am beginning to think I am the Poster Girl for the peculiar hobby of just buying craft supplies.  Did you know that buying materials and actually using them are two entirely different hobbies?

Here's my first sample run.  There are five dies in total, two solid and three lacy cut out.  The two solid dies fit perfectly under two of the cut out ones. As this is a test run, I used different cardstock and paper weights from vellum to mirri. Anything else will be too heavy as they are not deep cut dies.

I have puzzled over what to do with them, it's not as if I sell them.  I did think to donate to the local hospice for them to use in craft sessions or to sell but then it was suggested that I put them on picks and sell to a florist.  Now there's a thought!

Until next time
Stay safe, stay well
Debbie xx

  1. The butterflies look lovely. Can you stiffen them with anything and then surely someone would love them for using somewhere - the florist idea is a good one

    1. Thank you. I've had a lot of very good suggestions on a private FB craft group. The card is stiff enough on it's own, but the vellum will not take well to a stiffening agent.

  2. I think the butterflies are lovely, and if the added benefit is cheering you up--worth the price. Perhaps a local library or school might like some for their display space.

    1. Thank you, I may donate to the local hospice. We no longer have a library, a sad casualty of the pandemic.

  3. Aren't those lovely? I am sure a florist could put them to good use, or children could use them in school? I can see you've had a lot of fun anyway :)

  4. Sorry you have been feeling so down Debbie. The butterflies are really lovely and I am so pleased they cheered you up. Struggling to think of what you could do with them if you want to donate so glad you have had some ideas on a FB Craft Group! School or library are a good idea - if someone could collect them from you. Caroline (Ragged Robin)

  5. Such pretty butterflies. I am glad they are bringing you some fun and good cheer. I know your life is not easy now and you have many challenges to face each day.
I think they would make a pretty gift tag with a piece of paper hanging down for the name. I also thought they would make a lovely chime, maybe not the right name, you know, like a babies toy mobile hanging down or windchimes? Butterflies hanging down to flutter would be pretty.

    1. Thank you Darlene, yes, added to a gift tag is an excellent suggestion too. Some of the layers are quite fragile so flutterby butterflies in a breeze would look so pretty.

  6. Deb, I am so glad your crafts bring you joy. Sometimes we just have to try it all! The butterflies are quite pretty. Your idea to give them away is thoughtful of you. I read above about the mobile idea and think that is brilliant. Thinking of you and so glad to see a post from you, my friend!

    1. Thank you Martha Ellen. My choice of giving them to the local hospice is to give back for their incredible kindness to both my parents during their final years. However, suddenly on top of the list is a birthday bunting for my relative who will shortly turn 90!

  7. Sorry you have been feeling down, the grey winter months don't always help do they. However, we are now in February so slowly, slowly Spring is getting closer :)

The butterflies look lovely, and I think the florist idea is a good one.

Sending lots of good wishes your way.

    All the best Jan

    1. thank you so much. I suffer SAD at the best of times and always long for the long summer days, but not so much for the accompanying heat!

  8. The butterflies are really pretty. I like the mobile idea maybe placed in a window to catch the light - when we get some. Hope you are feeling better.

    1. Thank you. They will be a feature on my cousin's 90th birthday bunting, it is decided. Hopefully I'll feel better once the new meds regime settles down.
