Hello Friends!
I simply could not resist, and for those of you who know not of which I speak, or for those who wish to trip down Memory Lane, please listen here . . .
As my photos today will be predominantly snowdrops and daffodils I couldn't help reminiscing over the sweetly innocent Dana who won Eurovision in 1970 with the most charming song. Some great songs have come out of Eurovision, as well as Dana's All Kinds of Everything, Abba gave us Waterloo, and later came The Voice sung by Eimear Quinn, not forgetting in 1967 Sandy Shaw with Puppet on A String, or Love Shine a Light by Katrina and the Waves, to name but a few of the classics. I digress.
The flowers that herald the imminent passing of Winter are flowering, so can Spring be far behind? Snowdrops and Daffodils ~ the opening words of Dana's song!
Just to round out the opening bars, here are the butterflies and a bees. . .
I suppose it would have to be 'Waterloo', but I also like 'Rock Bottom' by Lynsey de Paul and Mike Moran, which came second in 1977. I stopped watching some years ago, but I think another 2nd place song 'Spaceman' by Sam Ryder was another cracking song.
ReplyDeleteSo many great songs, not to mention acts, like Lordi, or the Russian Grandmothers. I like DaΓ°i Freyr, who probably would have won if not for lockdown.
DeleteI know nothing of Eurovision, my friend, but I do know those are beautiful photos!
ReplyDeleteThank you Darlene. Eurovision, you either love it or you hate it. It's huge across all of Europe, and they are mad about it in Australia too, and for one night every year Australia becomes honorary European!
DeleteI remember Dana's song well, I still find myself singing it to this day!
ReplyDeleteI don't tend to watch Eurovision now although I do know Sam Ryder proved very popular.
Your photographs are beautiful.
All the best Jan
Thank you so much Jan. Sam Ryder seems to have the most amazingly positive and happy energy. I like his voice.
DeleteNot being familiar with Eurovision I'd not heard this delightful song by this delightful songbird! What a lovely charming voice she has. Your photos are perfect, my friend. Just the right accompaniment to this delightful song. Our south facing daffodils are peeking out of the ground. The warmth of the house is encouraging them along. February can be quite a fickle month here, so I'm sure the cold weather isn't gone yet. Thank you for sharing a bit of spring that hopefully won't be too long coming. Have a happy week!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. oh, Eurovision is a huge deal here, it brings people together in the {general} name of music, a competition in which love and joy abound, of course it's utterly crazy and totally bonkers too! I know someone who makes an annual event of travelling to the host city and has attended the live event every year since he was old enough to do so! People host themed parties, and a good time is had by all.
DeleteHopefully Winter is on the run, although you would not think so today.
Beautiful photographs, Deb. Love the snowdrops and daffodils! I’ve not heard of Eurovision here in the states.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Nellie. You know, I think I'm going to have to write a blog about Eurovision, for it really is quite the event.
DeleteBeautiful blog
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteYour photos are so beautiful. I don't have snowdrops and I think I need to get some this year so I can love them next spring!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Jeanie. Yes, I think you should.
DeleteBeautiful photos of the snowdrops, daffodils, butterflies and bees. I don't watch Eurovision anymore I must admit as it goes on for hours and hours but I loved it in the past. Waterloo by Abba is probably my all time favourite. I remember Dana's song too! :) Caroline from Ragged Robin's blog.
ReplyDeleteThank you Caroline. Sometimes I think I suffer from FOMO with Eurovision, so hate to miss it. Of course it's the voting that prolongs the evening.
DeleteLovely photos. Not seen the Eurovision since my 20s I don't think. Hopefully spring is drawing nearer (despite the predicted (heavy?) snow tonight. There were a few tentative Celendines unfolding on my walk yesterday anyway.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. Well, I confess to missing it when I lived abroad.
DeleteBeautiful photos' and beautiful song sung by Dana, she was recently on a BBC programme called The Road to Rome, with 6 other personalities on a pilgrimage to Rome. I wrote about it on my blog.
ReplyDeleteThank you Yes, I saw the first one but managed to miss the second. Thank goodness for iPlayer!
