Spot the Spider

Hello friends

No, not a game, that's its name, Spot the Spider.  LoL.

Those of you who know the size of the Sycamore seeds will appreciate the miniature size of Spot the Spider who appears in the first photo.

Both of these photos are very pleasing to me because they have that natural bokeh effect which I enjoy and it's all the more rewarding when it occurs naturally as it does in these two images.

My latest online art course is another one hosted by the brilliantly accomplished fine artist, Ida Andersen Lang, from Denmark, who specialises in using watercolour pencils in her art.

I think I'm going to be a little while longer before I finish this piece so I'm sharing a snap of it in progress today. I'll be doing a more detailed blog soon, when it's finished, showing more of the detail and obviously the finished piece. It's a real challenge for me and one of the reasons why it's taking me a lot longer is it's my first A3 piece.

I have had some very positive feedback on this painting, not only from my peers but also from Ida herself!!! I confess when I read what she said I had a bit of a squee moment!!!

The weather here in the west continues to be abysmal. We are constantly getting winds now of 40 miles an hour and we have had torrential rain, sufficient to mean that a hose pipe ban was lifted on the 25th of October, mind I can't see anyone wanting to use a hose pipe to water their garden at the moment with all the rain we've been getting. It's gone from the sublime to the ridiculous.

To try and keep warm without turning up the thermostat, I have just bought myself one of those oversized hoodies in a teddy bear fleece. It seems to do the job. Last night I actually got warmer than I'd been in a long time. However, the downside is I do look rather like a pink version of Uncle Fester. Then, if you're keeping warm, do you really care what you look like if nobody else can see you? However, before anyone asks, I will take the jump on this and say no, there will not be any photographs.

This morning I had my flu injection so will be taking it easy for the rest of the day and sitting mostly at my painting desk.

Until next time
Stay safe stay well
Debbie xoxo

  1. The spider among sycamore seeds is indeed tiny and like you I love the natural bokeh effect.

The painting is beautiful all ready - you are so very talented and I am not surprised you had such lovely comments on it. I look forward to seeing the final painting.

I've been tempted by one of those huge fleeces too!

    Enjoy your painting today.

    1. Thank you my friend. I thought you might like the bokeh. I have decided how I'm moving forward on the painting. It's another day for painting today, I'm afraid. Weather is foul, alright for ducks.

  2. We had our flu jabs but no side effects from a slightly sore arm. You're a rotter, not sharing a photo of you in your pink Uncle Fester outfit! Good to be snug as a bug though.

I love your latest art work. Gosh, quite a big one so that will keep you quiet for a while I imagine. So glad you had praise from the lady whose course it is - well deserved too, by the look of the work so far.

Glad you don't have a hose-pipe ban any longer - but not so good that you had so much rain in a short space of time, with wind to acccompany it. We've had a wet day here on and off, and it was quite windy when we got up too.

    1. Thank you. Well, it's the morning after and no discernible soreness, no anything major. I've been feeling a little bit tired, but then that's par for the course with my medication. You've probably got similar weather to us again today. Wild, wet and windy. It isn't even November, and I'm already fed up with it.

  3. When I originally saw these photos I thought these were maple seeds, Deb! Love it when bokeh happens on such beautiful captures. You are quite talented, my friend! I really, really like your latest!
We had our flu and bivalent injections last week. I had a bruise and a little rash, but felt fine for the days after. Hopefully you will be fine. Our area is seeing quite an increase in the flu already! The local high school had to cancel homecoming. Take care and stay warm and cozy in your new outfit! xoox

    1. Thank you my friend. I don't think I've seen Maple seeds. I wonder if there are the same family because the leaf is very similar shape. I'll have to Google that one. Glad to hear you've had both. Innoculations up to date now. I get the next one in mid November. Flu season has already started here too. And we don't normally see that until January, February. It's going to be a long winter, I'm afraid.
Be safe. Your friend across the pond. xoxo

  4. The photos are beautiful, and the spider is very small! Love the drawing you are making, it's beautiful, I can see why Ida loves it! I have lots of hoodies - normal ones for every day, and a huge fleecy one with Minny Mouse to keep me warm on cold evenings at home! Stay warm and dry, hugs, Valerie

    1. Thank you. At last, I have decided how I'm going to move forward to complete this work. Photos following soon! Yes , hoodies are warm and cosy, aren't they? They give you that extra layer on your head or a bit more bulk around the back of your neck keeps you a little bit warmer. Hugs Deb.

  5. The hoodie sounds like a good idea! I've been using those bags filled with rice or corn or whatever people fill them with that you heat in the microwave for a minute or two. I take two small ones to bed -- one for my feet, the other to hold onto and it's quite helpful. Since I also use them for my back (a slightly bigger one) it's a little extra warmth and draws less power than the heating pad, though I sometimes use that too.

  6. The sycamore seeds are beautiful. We had our flu jabs the week before last and Covid jabs this week. We will feel like pin cushions. Well done for impressing the teacher.

  7. I thought they were Maple seeds, too. They must be in the same family. The spider is so tiny. The photo is wonderful. You have such an eye for photography.

Your Ocean Goddess is stunning, my friend. Just stunning.
