~~~waving~~~at the Harvest Moon
Gentle Reader ~~~ Wasn't the full Harvest Moon splendid last evening?  I do hope you saw her, shining down in all her ethereal glory, silvery shimmery ~ gossamer clouds, as a cloak of invisibility, draping her, half hiding her, here in The Shire ~
I took some photographs, I always record the full moon ~ that is, when not scuppered by cloud cover, as so often happens here in The Shire ~ even though the composition seldom changes as she rises high in the midnight sky ~ unless, perchance, she loftily glides majestically over the lowly branches of an earth~bound tree or skims a tiled rooftop ~ The Man in The Moon smiles down from above {so why do I call her a 'she'?}
So, here 'she' is, half hidden by her raiment of clouds, shimmering, slipping silently by with a ghostly, silvery sheen ~~~ a perfect picture for Hallowe'en ~~~
Did you see all the subtle changes, as the clouds moved across her face?  Here is one final image, difficult to focus with so much cloud, the lens pulled back, so you can see the halo that surrounded her last night ~~~ there was an eerie, amber glow that does not quite show here, I half expected to see a wild Welsh witch on a besom flit across the spooky scene ~~~
I do hope you were able to see the Harvest Moon last night ~~~ and remember that ~~~
  1. Good morning from across the pond--afternoon there--Debs! I went outside to look for the moon, but between the trees and the cloud cover I could not even tell which direction to look for it. So nice to see what it looked like over Wales at least.
  2. Wonderful!! :-D
    It was magnificent here in Western NY, clear as a pin! (never ever saw it like that before)
    Only wish that my camera could capture it!
    Thanks for some GREAT pics!!
    Many Blessings, Linnie
    1. We are usually scuppered by complete cloud cover, or clear as a pin as you were last night. It was unusual to have such a film of cloud just masking the moon, so something a little different for me ~~~waving~~~
  3. Oh, Deb! Your Harvest Moon photos are amazing! 'She' definitely glowed with a Halloween feeling over Wales. We had thick cloud cover here. I went out to wave under the Harvest Moon, but she was completely hidden from view. I always think of our Girlfriends when I gaze at the Moon! So grateful that you shared your beautiful photos. Sending healing thoughts… ♡
    1. Oh, dear, another one scuppered by clouds! Yes, I too think of Girlfriends across the world whenever I see the moon ~ for we are all looking up at the same one! Thank you for the healing thoughts which are much needed still ~~~waving~~~
  4. Hi, Debs ... just before climbing into bed last night, I remembered to dash outside and look up. Sure enough, the clouds had lifted and 'she' was shining in all her glory over southern Alabama! Like Dawn, I too think of our Girlfriends and wish us well as I smile a little smile. Thanks for sharing, and for introducing a new word to me that I hadn't heard before: besom ... which I correctly assumed to be a broom (confirmed by Google)!
    Hugs from Alabama
    1. We had a cloud free view last night, and the sky was magical, full of glittering eyes. I wonder, do you have much light pollution, or a good, clear view of the night sky?~~~waving~~~
  5. She was, indeed, magnificent! Do you often see Welsh witches fly by, Debs? I would love to see that, also! I suppose I'll have to add a motor to my besom :)
    Bright blessings!
  6. Great pictures! I was looking forward to seeing the harvest super moon but the clouds decided to finally come in for a few days, luckily the cloud cover wasn't too thick and the garden was still nicely lit. I made sure to get a quick peek when the clouds parted for a second, a very beautiful night. :)
  7. Hello Deborah... oooh, your photos of "her" are beautiful!... I love seeing how she looks across the pond... wasn't it mesmerizing to watch her rise?... I could not bring myself to come inside, I just sat on my porch and gazed... love your description too... I think I just might have seen one of those Welsh witches starting to fly through the clouds... xoxo Julie Marie
    1. Good Morning Julie Marie ~ she was even more stunning without the clouds last evening. Oh, how I hear you! I love to wrap up warm and sit outside in the garden just looking up until it gets too cold to stay any longer ~~~waving~~~
  8. And as the daylight's fading
    When Lammas has come in
    And gleamers go to work among the stubble
    There comes an autumn sickle
    To cut the summer's throat
    Before the season knows it is in trouble"
    Oh yes, I saw the full moon! I felt like a werewolf in my case. Loved it.
    1. Ah, did you compose those lines Guillaume? Yes, I know that werewolf feeling indeed for the full moon brings a wonderful, magical energy, and I am more moon by night than I am sun by day. ~~~waving~~~
  9. Just beautiful!! We weren't privy to such a lovely view of "her". She was playing hide and seek with lots of rain clouds and tall pine trees.
    Hugs my dear friend,
    1. She did indeed play hide and seek with all of us, I do think. I have a clear, cloudless image, taken the following evening, and that will be on the next diary entry shortly. Oh, to have those pine trees as a background to a full moon ~~~waving~~~
