Shooting Dragons in The Garden ~~

Gentle Reader ~~~ After this morning, I cannot resist another entry today, for I have been shooting dragons across The Shire {as any Hobbit worth his, or her, bacon would do}

I do hope you won't miss the blog entry, yesterday, and you can find it here just in case you did ~~~

Back to the dragons ~~~ of course, they are not real dragons but dragonflies ~ well, just the one who decided to visit the gnarly old tops of the blackcurrant bush before it gets pruned back later this week ~~~ imagine my surprise to find one flitting about as I went on my usual morning check over the Garden and thanking providence that I'd taken my camera with me, for a short nip back to the cottage and I might well have missed the moment ~~~

He {or she} sat there for ages, so I got a few tidy images from different angles, and he {or she} had the good manners to, not only sit still for a few minutes, but to be perfectly angled against the grey sky so I got some good shots from underneath {I stepped down the drive which is slightly lower than the soft fruit patch so I was able to look up at him {or her!} silhouetted against the {thankfully not bright} greyness ~~~ so, without further ado, here are the photographs I took this morning ~~~ oh, and don't forget to take a peek at yesterday's blog, will you?

All photographs are not edited or cropped, other than resizing for uploading purposes and adding copyright information.  The bottom one is a composite, stitched together from two images.

  1. Oh, Debs! What breathtaking photos! The bokeh effect makes them even more beautiful. So nice that these peaceful dragons have visited your little kingdom… and that you had your camera in hand! A true artist! ♡

    1. He was so obliging! You know, I had to go Google bokeh effect! Well, it isn't intentional but I see what you mean! Reckon if I tried to make it happen it wouldn't. He was out there again, now just, as I was picking raspberries and blackcurrants {day after day after day now} basking on a stone! Waving!

  2. Again, amazing photos! What kind of camera DO you have? Thanks for the advice about the Foxglove. I knew that Hollyhocks are biennial, but I did not realize Foxglove were too. These plants came back in the same spot as last year's so that's why I expected them to flower. I also see new little plants in the vicinity. I figured they were too little to do anything this year.

    1. I have a Panasonic DMC~FZ45. It is a three year old bridge camera, but I have no idea what I'm doing really, I see something and I point, focus, and click. I really long to have something more like the old SLR I used to own, less complicated and leaves you in control, and something with inter~changeable lenses too!

  3. I love dragonflies. And real dragons too, although I haven't seen real ones. Great pics.

  4. Wonderful photos!! I especially love the ones from underneath!! The detail of his wings are amazing!

    I always think of Hobbits when I see "Shire" in your title! :-) I am re-reading "The Lord Of The Rings" right now, so I am immersed in the hobbit's world right now.

    1. Hello my friend! Thank you {again} Would it surprise you to learn that LOTR is on my top five books? Last summer I was given a lovely book by a friend; it is all about the plants in Tolkein's Middle Earth! You would be surprised how many grow in my garden :) My heart is forever Middle Earth!

  5. Debs, I'm always interested in your comments on SB blog. I just returned
    from the UK. Loved all of the front door gardens and have already put
    up a cute little fence so that I can have my own front door garden. I live
    on a muddy little island in SC, USA and have a terrible deer problem.
    That's why the fence. Love all of your flowers. I will try some of them.
    Thanks for a nice blog. Julia
